08/22/2008 - Allen Park, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Detroit Lions signed former Michigan star and professional baseball player Drew Henson to be a backup quarterback on Friday.
The move was made necessary when the club learned that backup Drew Stanton will miss approximately four weeks with a sprained thumb. Stanton's hand collided with the shoulder of an offensive lineman in practice on Thursday. His thumb will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Henson left Michigan to play third base in the New York Yankees organization, but his baseball career never panned out. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft by Houston, and traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2004. Henson completed 10-of-18 passes for 78 yards with one touchdown and one interception in limited action with Dallas in 2004.
The Cowboys released Henson before the 2006 season, and he signed on with the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad. Minnesota released the 28-year-old prior to the 2007 season.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
