D-Backs' Haren to try to shut down light-hitting Giants

Baseball Betting Lines

07/25/2008 - (Baseball Betting) - Dan Haren will try to keep the Arizona Diamondbacks atop the NL West standings tonight, when he takes the mound in the opener of a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

Haren has won four of his last five decisions and recently pitched seven shutout innings in a win over Los Angeles on Saturday. Haren allowed four hits and struck out seven batters in the 3-2 victory, improving to 9-5 with a 2.58 ERA this season.

The right-hander is 4-4 with a 3.58 earned run average through 10 career games (9 starts) against San Francisco.

Arizona, which is just a game ahead of Los Angeles in the division standings, had a two-game winning streak stopped with Wednesday's 10-6 setback to the Chicago Cubs in the finale of a three-game set. Doug Davis took the loss after he gave up four runs on five hits in seven innings of work. He also struck out six and walked two batters in defeat.

Chris Snyder hit a three-run homer and Tony Clark added a two-run shot for the D'Backs. Stephen Drew extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a double.

San Francisco just swept Washington in three games and posted a 1-0 victory in Thursday's series finale. Matt Cain threw a four-hitter and did not walk a batter in his first shutout since 2006.

Aaron Rowand added two hits for San Francisco, which was swept in three games by Milwaukee coming into the series.

Jonathan Sanchez gets the nod for the Giants tonight. He is 8-5 with a 4.10 earned run average this season, but 0-1 in his last three starts. Sanchez is 1-3 with a 5.48 ERA in seven games (5 starts) against Arizona.

The 2008 season series between Arizona and San Francisco is tied at 4-4.

Chiefs' Treen Green out for Sunday's game

How long Trent Green will remain sidelined is unknown. Coach Herm Edwards said Monday he will miss a second straight start Sunday when the Chiefs host the San Francisco 49ers.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Green was going into a feet-first hook slide when he was knocked unconscious by a thunderous, head-snapping hit from Cincinnati's Robert Geathers.

Oddsmakers at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com currently have the Chiefs listed as 7-point favorites versus the 49ers.

The 49ers got beat by Philadelphia 38-24 as a 6.5-point underdog last week. The combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (42.5).

Alex Smith completed 27-of-46 passes for 293 yards with a touchdown. Michael Robinson rushed for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns on five carries.

The Chiefs lost 9-6 to Denver last week as an 11-point underdog. The combined score was well UNDER the posted over/under total (38).

Larry Johnson
rushed for 126 yards on 27 carries. Damon Huard completed 17-of-23 passes for 133 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
